The Boarding Kennel Sheet

Boarding is one of the few services that survived both eras of the site intact. The VetHost build carried it as a custom content page, filed between grooming and payment options. The WordPress rebuild carried it into the services menu, seated between the clinical pages it had nothing in common with except the same roof. A kennel bench for bulldogs keeps the breeder's side of the same ledger: the file here keeps the clinic's.

What the dossier keeps

In the 2012 structure the boarding page had its own numbered file, c_191944, one of a pair added after the original page set, alongside grooming at c_191943. Numbered filenames are the archaeology of a website: the gap between the 1895-series originals and the 1919-series additions marks boarding and grooming as services the site grew into, pages added once the practice had the kennel and the salon running.

The WordPress menu then gave boarding a clean address of its own. In a hospital file that is significant: boarding is the service most easily dropped from a medical identity, and this practice kept it named, paged and reachable from the main navigation.

The hospital advantage

A boarding offer inside a veterinary hospital is a different product from a standalone kennel, and the site's structure quietly makes the argument. The boarding page's neighbours in the menu were pharmacy, senior care and urgent care. Whatever the page's text said, its placement told clients the boarding pets slept under the same roof as the diagnostics bench and the surgical suite, which is the entire sales pitch for boarding at a vet.

Two pages, one offer

The record kept boarding twice, once per era, and the file keeps both. The earlier page belongs to the years when the practice was still introducing itself, the later one to the years when the menu was complete enough to need no introduction. That a page like boarding outlived the redesign while other pages were renamed says the service itself was load-bearing.

The two file numbers

The VetHost filenames tell a small story on their own. The original content set ran in the c_1895 series, eighteen pages numbered in a row, and boarding is not among them. Boarding arrives at c_191944, grooming at c_191943, sequential numbers that mark the pair as a single later expansion, two new rooms added to the site in one sitting. In the file's terms, the practice's non-medical wing has a construction date, and it is later than the founding pages.

The WordPress build then refiled boarding under services, where it sat beside pharmacy and urgent care rather than beside grooming. The move reads as the record of an identity choice: the kennel was presented as part of the hospital's care, not as a concession stand attached to it.

How the file reads it

Boarding pages are where hospital websites admit they are also small hotels. This file keeps the admission without embarrassment: a clean corridor in a building that also held an operating room, offered to clients who wanted their pets boarded where the charts were kept. The record kept the corridor's address on both versions of the map.

The file closes the kennel sheet where the record leaves it: one corridor, two file numbers, a menu seat kept across a redesign. What the runs looked like at night is outside the captures; that the practice boarded under its own roof is not, and the sheet keeps the offer as filed.
