As family and friends of our furry, finned and fine-feathered treasured companions, there is no doubt that news of animal cruelty is likely to rub us the wrong way. A majority of us cannot start to imagine someone laying a hand on our delicate and precious friends. And it is quite unfortunate that millions of pets all over the world are constantly exposed to undeserved violence, cruelty, and gross mistreatment from their masters and owners. At this juncture, if you’re wondering whether there is anything you could do to help alleviate this suffering, then you could start by showing solidarity to a movement that was started back in April 1966.
The ASPCA ( American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ) annually dedicates the 30 days of the month of April to raise public awareness of animal cruelty. You can also lend them a hand by supporting their cause that seeks to make the world a better place for our pets. In the next 30 days, you can assist this humane organization, and fellow animal/pet lovers mark this special month by undertaking one or more of the following responsibilities.
1. Assisting or volunteering at the nearest local animal shelter center. This is also an opportune time of adopting a new four-legged companion.
2. Help raise public awareness ( and funds )of the plight that unadopted animals face every day that they spend on the streets unclaimed. The few animal shelters we have are trying to rein in this situation but still require your valuable input.
3. Spreading the message about the significance of pets in our lives through social media channels using the hashtag #fightanimalcruelty.
Also, follow ASPCA on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter and encourage your online buddies to follow them too. Commit to sharing at least one of their social media posts ( on your timeline ) every day for the 30 days of April.
