Modern Vaccine Protocols
Steeplechase Veterinary Hospital follows the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) recommendations. We routinely provide only the core vaccines, with all others being optional and recommended on an as-needed basis.
We use USDA approved 3-year vaccines for all our core canine vaccines. This allows us to use a rotational schedule after the first year so that your dog doesn’t get overburdened each year with multiple vaccines at one time, potentially decreasing the effectiveness of the vaccines given, but also increasing the likeliness of an adverse vaccine reaction.
We use only non-adjuvanted vaccines for our feline patients. These vaccines are only available in one-year protocols, with the exception of the upper respiratory vaccines. Non-adjuvanted vaccines are extremely safe, they reduce the risk of vaccine-induced Fibrosarcoma, a very aggressive cancer, to zero, and they are the only vaccines recommended by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) for use in cats.
Taking a proactive approach toward your pet’s health, the Steeplechase doctor’s recommend regular organ function checks to allow trends to be monitored over the years. By reviewing such trends, the doctors are able to get an idea of what health issues could potentially arise and begin the appropriate treatment in hopes to avoid a more serious situation.
Also incorporated in our bloodwork testing is a small panel of blood chemistries and a complete blood to check for heartworms.
Animals that are overweight can have their lives shortened by an average of 2 years. As an avid proponent of high quality pet foods, the Steeplechase Veterinary Hospital doctors are proactive in helping our clients assist their pets in achieving an ideal body condition. Through dietary management and recommendations geared to each pet’s specific needs, this goal can be accomplished.
Steeplechase Veterinary Hospital carries a variety of prescription diets offering the best quality ingredients available in a medical diet, coupled with some of the most advanced research in medical nutrition.
